Cinderella story? Me tolerating more than 10 minutes of Billy Packer.
Monday, March 17th, 2008For the first time in my life, I went the whole year without watching a single college basketball game. To drive the point home, I can list every second of college basketball I’ve seen this year:
- Five seconds of Iowa vs. Michigan State as I walked past The Village Pourhouse, one of those awful East Village bars that hoses the vomit off the pavement every morning. Iowa was behind by 30 or so.
- The first four minutes of Illinois vs. Minnesota on Saturday. Snore.
- The first half of Illinois vs. Wisconsin on Sunday. Snore.
I know that Drake is good, Gorney wasn’t enough, and Steve Alford’s new team played its way into yet another “March situation.” Apart from that, I’m clueless. We’re a long way from those halcyon days of informed, reasoned analysis as seen on DUNK SONDY DUNK.
Any bracket tips?

I’ve watched quite a bit of Pac-10 bball, and I have to recommend Oregon making a deep run.

Uh, I’ll assume that first comment was sarcastic.
Then again, I’m running the pool in my office and just received a bracket with Wisconsin and Austin Peay in the final. Xavier and ND are the other two final four picks.
As for my picks. I filled out one bracket with all four 2 seeds making the final four. I had another with all four 1 seeds. To me, those are boring, but it seems to me that there are 8 head and shoulders above the rest. Possible upset teams this year…K-State, Kentucky, Pitt and Purdue.

I know this is the equivalent of bidding $1 on the Price is Right, but I may pick only the favorites in each matchup this year.

Yay Vandy! Are we still in it? Should I be watching? I don’t even know how to find sports on the teevee.

i used to pick a team because i liked their mascot. or it was a state that i had been to. that’s what i’ll be working with this year.

The Kernel Colonel approves, but even I can’ take Drake as a homer pick over UCLA.

Drake is toast. Out of 42 submissions in my office pool, a grand total of zero picked Western-Kentucky.

Forget the toasted wrap combo, bring this bracket to Iowa where, despite liking Drake more than most Iowans, you would be in second place in a 42-deep pool and in contention for the $150 pot. How much pot does $150 get you in NYC? JP?

I am currently leading the No Help Desk bracket. I can say without a doubt that not watching any basketball this year CAUSED this high performance.
