The Morocco photo directory
Thursday, June 22nd, 2006Here’s a directory for our Morocco photos, in chronological order:
- Volubilis. Roman ruins.
- Three days in Fes, a city known for its 9th century medina. There are photos of a cooking lesson and our trip to the tanneries in this set.
- After Fes we drove south through Erfoud, Zagora, and the Sahara. Lots of photos of dunes, Maggie feeding (or counseling?) monkeys, and some rocks. There’s much more to say about this part of the trip. Let’s just say that the south rose again and leave it at that.
- After that we left the desert and headed for the High Atlas mountains, home of Mount Toubkal, which any native will tell you is 4,167 meters tall.
- We spent the next two nights in Essaouira on the Atlantic coastwhere we enjoyed by far the best food in Morocco outside of Marrakech.
- Finally, we spent five days in Marrakech before throwing ourselves back at the mercy of Royal Air Maroc for our trip home.
There is plenty of Morocco not shown on this map, but in that part of the country instead of roads they have land mines, so we decided against exploring there. There are no pictures of Casablanca because Casablanca is as romantic as an exhaust pipe, a disgusting, humid, smog-choked financial center (and I couldn’t find batteries for the camera). We only spent our first jet lagged night there, so you’re not missing much.

“Let’s just say that the south rose again and leave it at that.”
So can we assume you found an “easy” drugstore selling Moor-Rockin’ Viagra?

Oh if only we had had a pleasant reason to find a drugstore. The south rose again in a non-innuendo loaded sorta way…something possibly related to consumption of oversweetened mint tea in filthy reused glasses given to us by a goat butcher lacking the modern convenience of refrigeration and the modern tendency toward sanitary meat handling in 100 degree heat.
