The Job Blog: Part Deux

The bossLongtime readers will appreciate the titular reference, not to mention the use of the word titular.

What ho! That dull thud you heard wasn’t walnuts falling on the garage, it’s the sound of a job search starting in earnest. The wisdom of one of those silly sayings like "you don’t know anything until you realize how much you don’t know" is starting to become clear. As I peruse the listings I can’t help but think about the technical skills that I’d love to have but won’t upon graduation. That’s not (necessarily) meant to be a knock on my grad program, it’s just that I feel like I know a lot about how things work but much less about how to actually do them. XMLHttpRequest? I know why it’s important… just don’t ask me to do anything with it. For all that apprehension, though, I did step back tonight and realize that a lot of the jobs I’m looking at are really quite cool.

And to think that eighteen months ago I was making coffee every morning at 8.

remember that one time when you didn’t have a job and were offered credit cards…lol

p.s. the company i work for employs lots of smart people who know nothing about technology. Somehow we still get people to pay a lot of money for our services!
