That blue shirt, 1997-2005

Friday, May 13th, 2005

We’ve made a concerted effort in this most recent round of packing to donate those things that we no longer use or wear to Goodwill. Every once in awhile, we come across an item that has no redeemable value, an item that no one who frequents Goodwill could possibly want. Blue shirt, your time has come.

A brief timeline:

1997-ish: Dr. F. C. McMann sports the same shirt during AP US History. Though yours truly does not share the good doctor’s taste in bland smocks, he thinks it quite awesome that he has picked out a shirt that a high school teacher would wear.
1998: Senior pictures. Though I don’t have a yearbook handy, I am quite sure that this shirt appears in either the 1997 or 1998 versions of the Washington High School yearbook. Check either the Young Republicans or the Young Democrats pictures, I appear in both.
November 28, 2001: Fast forward to the new millennium. My handsome roommate snaps a picture of the elusive recluse returning from the pause that refreshes.

November 28, 2001, part 2: It appears again! A late night study break in the bowels of the apartment complex turns photogenic, and our hero is snapped again wearing the famous blue collar.

May 12, 2005: The shirt, showing definite signs of age, is euthanized. It survived high school, a brief stint at a private liberal arts school, and three rough years of state university. This brave shirt did tours in the Cultural Corridor, Washington DC, and Ann Arbor. We respect what this shirt has been through and salute its service to making a better Mattbot.
