Nomar a Cub for another year; Walker, (scared of) Texas Rangers

Wednesday, December 8th, 2004

Nomar signed a one year deal today worth about $8 million with some performance incentives thrown in for shits and giggles. It’s not often a star gets a second chance at a walk year, but the Cubs are fortunate enough to be in a position to offer Nomar less than his market value since he’s no doubt eager to prove he’s not all busted up in the ankle like he was last year.

Todd Walker signed a one year deal and Mark Grudzilanek was politely shown the door. Walker admitted to being “scared” that the Texas Rangers would offer him what he was asking. Fortunately for Walker, the Rangers offered him an obscene amount of money over his market value and he was able to decline under the league’s new Chan Ho Clause.

I thought Chan Ho Clause was the Korean Santa…

My vote is yes, especially if I can (and do) now call him my Korean Jew Homie. Or just KJ for short.

That’s right, I went to see the Rabbi to find out what the good book says about non-practicing Jews. I don’t even have to keep kosher!

In other news of the Jew, I was standing outside of West Hall last night a little after 10 and, sure enough, a minivan with a huge electric menorah affixed to the van’s roof slowly drove by. Someone on the corner stopped the van to chat with the Hasid inside. Another car honked. I would by lying if I said it didn’t make my night.

In Korea, they call it Chan Ho-nukkah
